The Ottawa Senators asked fans on X (formerly Twitter) which team star they'd like to see at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The question was inspired by Christa Deguchi's gold medal in judo, becoming the first Canadian to win an Olympic judo gold medal

Deguchi, the top-ranked judoka in the world, won the under-57 kilogram category by beating Huh Mi-mi. Huh, who had defeated Deguchi at the 2024 world championships, was penalized for a false attack in sudden-death overtime. This gave the gold medal to Deguchi.

"Fired up after watching that Judo gold medal match! Which Sen would you want to see competing at #Paris2024 and in what event?" Senators asked fans on X.

"Stutzle in any diving event would be guaranteed gold," another fan commented.

"Stutzle would be an elite diver," one X user said.

Take a look at some more reactions from fans on X.

"Alfie would rock table tennis," one fan said.
"I think if Sandy actually focused on track and field, he'd be great," a fan commented.
"Give me Norris and Pinto synchronized swimming," a fan tweeted.

The Canadian judoka, who was born in Japan and has represented Canada since 2017, faced major challenges to reach Paris. Even though she is the top judoka in her weight class, Christa Deguchi had to beat Jessica Klimkait, a strong Canadian competitor and Tokyo bronze medalist, to secure her Olympic spot.

Deguchi won against Sarah-Leonie Cysique of France in the semifinals. Cysique later won bronze by defeating Eteri Liparteliani from Georgia.

Ottawa Senators goaltending issues and potential improvement with Linus Ullmark

The Ottawa Senators' goaltending in the 2023–24 season was weak.

Joonas Korpisalo, who has now been traded to the Boston Bruins, put a below-career average save percentage (.890) last season.

Anton Forsberg, the backup, was recovering from a severe double-knee injury but struggled. As a result, the team finished 31st in save percentage, with only the Philadelphia Flyers performing worse.

Using Evolving Hockey’s GSAx metric shows Korpisalo's struggles. Out of 96 goalies, he was last with a GSAx of -13.60. Forsberg had a tough season too, ranking 18th from the bottom with a GSAx of -3.69.

Looking ahead, the addition of Linus Ullmark is a significant improvement. For the last six years, Ullmark has been one of the best goalies in terms of stopping anticipated goals. Forsberg's recent performance, with a GSAx of 14.35, indicates that he could be effective, provided he stays healthy. Together, they may strengthen the Ottawa Senators' goaltending in the coming season.
