The New York Rangers lost for the 14th time in 18 games as they were blown out by the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2 on Saturday. Fans were distraught with the team's efforts especially after K'Andre Miller that he liked how his team played.
After the game, Miller said that the team didn't deserve to lose. A point can be made that the Rangers almost doubled the number of shots of their opponents. They got 44 shots on goal compared to Lightning's 25 but their defensive woes continued and despite a spirited effort, they were eventually let down by some soft plays from their blue line in the second period that led to three goals.
"We’ve all been in games where we’re losing," Miller said, via NY Post's Mollie Walker. I don’t think just because we’re losing in a game, doesn’t mean we’ve lost the game. That’s something this group maybe has lost a little bit. That pushback. I liked our game, I liked what we did overall. I think it’s just we can bring a little bit more."
Fans took to X to voice their displeasure. They aimed their discontent at Miller for what he said despite a subpar performance on the ice.
"I am sick and tired of the players sugarcoating every loss. And this coming from Miller is comical," a fan wrote.
"Has anyone told miller that he is a factor of why we lose cause he doesn’t like to play defense as a defenseman," another fan said.
"Gets blown out: “I like what we did overall”. If that’s the mentality in that room, this franchise is cooked," a fan wrote.
"He has to go. Flat out. Deal him," a fan said.
"What? this is what’s wrong for this team they have no clue softest bunch of guys ever," antother fan commented.
Mika Zibanejad echoes K'Andre Miller's words
Even though fans criticized Miller, his senior teammate Mika Zibanejad had similar feelings about their style of play. He shared the same opinion that his team didn't deserve to lose 6-2.
"Result-wise this is not what we wanted," Zibanejad said, via NHL.com. "We can talk about a reset, we can talk about whatever, but if the result is not there it's not going to matter. I don't think it was a 6-2 game. Special teams kind of got to us. We don't score on our power play (0-for-4) and we let in two goals. We put ourselves in a bad spot."
The Rangers are three games below .500. They hold a 15-18-1 record and have found themselves in a downward spiral after winning 12 of their first 16 games.
