Sidney Crosby is all set to don the captain’s jersey for Canada again! With the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off set to kick off in less than two months, NHL fans, analysts and Crosby’s fellow teammates have been vocal and united in their pick for captain of Team Canada.
Crosby, considered one of the greatest Canadian hockey players, is hugely popular among fans of the sport and was one of the first selections on the nation’s roster for the upcoming tournament. The three-time Stanley Cup winner is 25-0 in his last 25 games with Team Canada and has won two Olympic golds, a World Championship title and a World Cup with them.
The Pittsburgh Penguins captain is on track to become the oldest player in the 4 Nations Face-Off. However, from the outpouring of support for him on social media, fans believe he still has what it takes to succeed.
Conversely, some fans expressed disbelief that anyone else, like Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid, was even considered for the role. They reacted strongly to an NHL post on X speculating about who would lead the Canadian team.
"Sidney Crosby should wear the 'C'," one of them posted on X.
"It’s gonna be Sid, there is no question. Even MacDavid and MacKinnon have both said it should be him," another said.
Sports insiders and Sidney Crosby's fellow Team Canada members have quickly joined the chorus calling for his captaincy.
“It should be Sid. It should be Sid for sure, that’s not even a question,” Connor McDavid was quoted as saying by nhl.com.
Fans were not shy in echoing this sentiment, with a near-unanimous outpouring of support for "Sid the Kid."
"It's Crosby and it isn't close," one posted.
"Sid the Kid," wrote another.
Hockey fans in Canada have spoken, though no official announcement has been made.
Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid headline star-packed Team Canada
The 4 Nations Face-Off is being touted as an international tournament staged by the National Hockey League (NHL) and National Hockey League Players's Association (NHLPA) in place of the 2025 NHL All-Star game.
Featuring NHL players from Canada, the United States, Sweden and Finland, the competition is scheduled from Feb. 12 to 20 at the Bell Centre in Montreal and TD Garden in Boston. All four teams will play each other in a round-robin format, with the top two heading to the final.
Nova Scotian Crosby will join McDavid, current NHL MVP Nathan McKinnon and 20 other players to form the Team Canada contingent.
