Detroit Red Wings fans were upset after their team lost 5-4 to the Vancouver Canucks in overtime on Sunday. The Red Wings will have to bounce back as they prepare for a game against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday.
After the game, the Detroit Red Wings shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) saying
"Final in OT."
Fans quickly took to X to express their frustration, particularly with head coach Derek Lalonde.
"Spitting in the fans' faces by keeping Lalonde here," One fan wrote, reflecting the growing discontent over the team's performance.
"I don’t even care anymore tbh. We’re not making the playoffs," another fan commented.
"What does Lalonde have to do to get fired ?," a fan asked.
Here are some more reactions from fans on X.
"Good now fire his a**," one X user said.
"Get rid of the bald b**ch behind the bench. This team plays pathetic," a fan commented.
"Honestly, why exactly am I supposed to have hope that this team will return to the post-season again? I love this team forever but this is just very sad how bad this team is," a fan voiced a sense of despair.
Detroit Red Wings 2nd-period defensive mistakes proved costly
The Vancouver Canucks defeated the Detroit Red Wings 5-4 in overtime at Little Caesars Arena. Jonatan Berggren scored first for Detroit at 13:57, putting in a rebound.
Jake DeBrusk tied it 1-1 early in the second period. DeBrusk scored 40 seconds later to give Vancouver a 2-1 lead. Alex DeBrincat tied it 2-2 with his 10th goal of the season. Pius Suter put Vancouver ahead 3-2.
Michael Rasmussen tied the game 3-3 early in the third period with a power-play goal. Vladimir Tarasenko gave Detroit a 4-3 lead at 4:50 with a wrist shot. Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin praised Tarasenko's goal saying, per NHL.com:
“Vladdy’s goal was huge, we had two goals right after power plays gave us some momentum. Anything can happen at 3-on-3, but we just came up a little short.”
But Erik Brannstrom tied it 4-4 for Vancouver at 16:40 with a slap shot. DeBrusk completed his hat trick at 4:00 of overtime, scoring the game-winner.
This win helped Canucks surge over Edmonton in Pacific Division for the 3rd place with a 13-7-3 record. The Red Wings received one point for their effort. They are 6th in the Atlantic Division with a 10-11-3 record.
