St. Louis Blues head coach rips into his players and accuses them of not caring for the team after the loss to Canucks

After their 3-2 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night, the St. Louis Blues have now lost four games on the run and languish in the bottom half of the Central Division. A lot of pressure has mounted on the Blues, and the poor effort from the players has made head coach Craig Berube unhappy.

Speaking at a press meet after the game, Berube criticized the team and their best players for not showing enough desire.

“A lot of our best players are not doing the job. I guess they don't care about the team. I don't know,” he said.

Berube added that passion and emotion are missing from their play, which has badly affected St. Louis.

“There are a handful of guys really competing and doing the job, but again our best players aren't even close. Our best players don't play with any passion, no emotion, and no inspiration at all. They don't play inspired hockey. You cannot play in this league without emotion, grit, and being inspired.”

He continued his torrent of criticism, accusing his players of taking hefty paychecks and not delivering the goods.

“They are getting paid lots of money, and they are not doing the job. End of story.”

The St. Louis Blues did play well initially but have completely lost track since the start of the second half of the season. They are placed sixth in the Western Conference Central Division with 56 points from 58 games.

The Blues' offense has scored 178 goals this season. The contribution has come from players like Jordan Kyrou and Pavel Buchnevich, with over 40 goals between the two.

St. Louis' defense, however, has been leaky. The goaltenders have failed to make enough saves, and further, with the defensive pair not doing enough, they have conceded over 3.6 goals per game on average this NHL season.

The focus now shifts to the St. Louis Blues' next game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday (February 25). Having lost their last four, they will have to improve a lot if they are to take anything away from the game.

It will be interesting to see how the St. Louis players respond to their coach's scathing comments.
