The Boston Bruins suffered a disappointing 8-1 loss against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night. Goalie Jeremy Swayman had a dreadful game, allowing eight goals on just 35 shots faced.
After signing an eight-year, $66 million contract in October, Swayman has struggled to find consistency this season. So far this season, he has posted a .885 save percentage and 3.27 GAA through 21 games.
Following the blowout loss, Bruins fans took to X/Twitter to vent their frustration.
One fan tweeted:
"Swayman let in one for each million on his contract."
Another fan wrote:
"Swayman has turned into a disaster signing, and a colossal waste of cap space. Sweeney needs to go as much as I'd like the guy."
Here are some more reactions from fans on X:
"Someone please have the guts to ask Swayman if he honestly believes he is worth the money or even has the ability to play that caliber," one fan wrote.
"I’m starting to think you guys traded the wrong goalie. Swayman should’ve went instead of Linus. At this point let Korpisalo start against the next four games," another fan said.
"I am sick of the Bruins broadcast team carrying Sways water. When a player makes a bad play, they call him out. When Sway lets in 3 shots he should have had and another totally embarrassing short side goal, they say NOTHING!! Horrid" one fan commented.
"The pay Swayman crowd are pretty quiet these days," another fan added.
Jeremy Swayman on Boston Bruins' 8-1 loss to Jets
Tuesday's scoreline marked the first time a Bruins goalie gave up eight goals in a game since Dan Vladar did so in April 2021. It was also just the fifth time the Bruins allowed eight goals in a game since 2003.
After the blowout loss, Swayman took accountability for his poor performance.
"Some of the goals that I let in, I know I can stop them," Swayman said via Boston.com.
"That's something that I hold myself as a standard, and when you let those in, it's not a great feeling. I want to make sure that that doesn't happen again and staying sharp and playing my game. I know I can stop those goals. So that's what I'm going to do and push forward," he added.
David Pastrnak scored Boston's lone goal. Mark Scheifele (two goals), Kyle Connor, Nikita Chibrikov, Gabriel Vilardi, Mason Appleton, Alex Iaffallo and Vladislav Namestnikov scored for Winnipeg. Connor Hellebuyck made 23 saves for the Jets on the night.
Swayman and Co. will look to bounce back when they face the Seattle Kraken next at Climate Pledge Arena on Thursday.
