NHL legends Teemu Selanne and Brett Hull are stepping into the world of cinema with their movie "Minor Leaguer," which premieres on Thursday, August 1.
It is a comedy-drama sports film directed by Dan Comrie. The film revolves around Jake McKay (a career minor-leaguer portrayed by Comrie) whose idol (Selanne) acquires his minor-pro team, the Hemel Hawks, in the Old West Hockey League.
As the storyline unfolds, Hull catches wind of the deal and decides to purchase his own team, sparking a rivalry with Selanne. This on-screen competition between the two NHL legends plays out both on and off the ice, with Selanne and Hull portraying themselves in a unique setting.
The movie delves into the dynamics of the hockey world, blending drama and humor as rivalries unfold in this sports-themed narrative.

On Monday, Selanne shared his thoughts about the movie during an appearance in NHL Tonight:
"Well, first of all, it was crazy experience, obviously. And when they introduce about that movie, at first I said, I'm not, I don't know if I'm interested, but the whole concept is about playing yourself, which is totally opposite about you," he said.
"And I got started getting excited, and then, you know, obviously Holly said yes, so it was good to do together and in a lot of fun, a great new experience, and a lot of slow, slow days, and I have a lot of appreciation for the real actors, but hopefully people is gonna like it. It's gonna be fun for comedy, and we enjoy to do it."
Hull also reflected on the movie, highlighting the enjoyable experience of working with Selanne and how portraying a character similar to himself added to the fun and ease of the filming process.
"When they asked me and I'm like, I don't know. But you know, once they gave you the script, you look at it, and it was a little bit easier for me. You know, like you know, Teemu is one of the most likable human beings on the planet. Absolutely. I kind of got play a little more closer to myself.
"That was a little bit easier for me, but we sure had a lot of fun. It was a great experience. And I think everyone's going to really enjoy the movie," Hull said of the movie.
