Hockey fans are reacting to Marc-Andre Fleury’s final NHL headshot with a mix of emotions. In April 2024, Fleury signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Wild. He also announced that the 2024-2025 season would be his last, marking the end of a 21-year NHL career. The upcoming season will be his fourth with the Wild.
Fleury’s first NHL headshot was taken when he joined the league in 2003, after being drafted 1st overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins. His final headshot, taken in 2024, shows the same familiar smile he has worn throughout his career.
Though there's a difference of two decades, the only thing that has changed is his experience and three Stanley Cups. Fleury has won Cups with the Penguins in 2016 and 2017, and one in 2009.
Fleury’s last headshot quickly spread on social media, with fans sharing their opinions.
"Last headshot 😭 the end of an era," one fan wrote, appreciating the long and successful career Fleury has had.
"Everytime I see Flower in the Minny jersey, I always remember him trying to fight Binnington lol," another fan said.
"He just makes me smile. Hell of a career, and I hope he has a great season this year to cap it off," a fan wrote.
His time in the NHL has included stints with the Penguins, Vegas Golden Knights, Chicago Blackhawks and now the Wild. He has become one of the most respected and accomplished goaltenders in the league.
"I never would've thought this dude would be playing 10 years after he was basically being crucified due to playoff performances. Amazing career," a fan wrote.
"He ought to share the Fountain of Youth's location to the rest of us, especially to Seravalli," one fan said.
"Would’ve been awesome if he rocked a good chain and styled his hair in the last photo the same way it was in the first photo," a fan shared.
Though his career is coming to an end, Marc-Andre Fleury’s smile and love for hockey are still there.
Marc-Andre Fleury's last season with the Minnesota Wild
The Minnesota Wild's goaltending will be a key focus area in the 2024-25 season. Marc-Andre Fleury, Jesper Wallstedt and Filip Gustavsson make up an interesting trio, but last season's performance was disappointing. None of the goalies had a save percentage above .900.
Marc-Andre Fleury had his worst statistical season (save percentage of .895), but he's still important to the team's success. His rebound control was a bright spot, and he performed better during five-on-five play. With a stronger defense and fewer injuries, Fleury could help stabilize the Wild’s goaltending.
