According to Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff, the Calgary Flames are bringing veteran Tyson Barrie on player tryout. The 33-year-old has a 13-year NHL experience.

While he needs to prove himself to earn a contract, Barrie's experience and leadership qualities could him a valuable addition to the Flames' roster as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Here's how NHL fans on X/Twitter reacted to Tyson Barrie's Calgary Flames' PTO report. One tweeted:

"There's a reason he isn't signed."

Another chimed in:

"Low-risk, potentially high (or at least decent) reward. Like the move for a young and rebuilding team. Added bonus: Could be a good trade deadline chip to have."

Here are some of the other top reactions on X. Another tweeted:

"Why is it surprising? he’s been healthy scratched his last 2 destinations and we know he’s an all offence point scorer that is an absolute liability in dzone and with turnovers."
"Why is every 30-plus veteran guy automatically considered a great leader? He’s joining his fourth team in the last five years…how much of a leader can he be?," one X user wondered.
"They have enough leaders. Barrie is 31. Flames need to take a good long long at all of the D men they bought in," said another.
"Dare someone to try to name 3 flames defencemen right now. At least Barrie will know if he doesn’t make this squad, it’s not gonna happen in the show anymore," another opined.

Tyson Barrie was drafted No. 64 overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2009 NHL draft. He has played for the likes of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, and Nashville Predators, apart from the Avs.

The veteran defenseman has accumulated 396 points through 109 goals and 396 assists in 809 games with a plus-75.

Calgary Flames are open to the idea of shipping Rasmus Andersson

According to NHL insider David Pagnotta of "The Fourth Period," the Flames are open to the possibility of trading defenseman Rasmus Andersson.

Andersson has another year remaining on his six-year, $27.3 million contract. He will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2025–26 season. Pgnotta reports that the Calgary Flames are willing to take calls, suggesting it might be Andersson's final season with the Flames.

“Rasmus Andersson, they are willing to take calls. Still, on Anderson, he has another year left on his contract, has some no trade protection. But there's some belief in Flames and in National Hockey League that this might be his last season as a Calgary Flames.
"The Flames would be seriously looking at moving him this season if something isn't done over the course of the summer.”

The statement from Pagnotta suggests while Andersson remains under contract, the Flames may consider shipping him if they don't see progress in negotiations or performance improvements in the near future.
