Former Columbus Blue Jackets forward Patrik Laine was traded to the Montreal Canadiens earlier this offseason. Laine went for his first jersey check during his visit to the Habs on Sunday.

The 26-year-old went to the Bell Centre for the first time since his trade to the Canadiens. The official social media handle of the Habs posted a picture and a clip of the forward wearing a Montreal jersey for the first time.

What caught the attention of the fans was the outfit Patrik Laine wore on the occasion. He sported a casual white hoodie, Marimekko's Varret Pieni Unikko Kioski sweatpants worth $147 and a light pink baseball cap. He slipped on the Habs #92 jersey casually over the hoodie and said:

“It looks pretty tight, pretty good.”

Fans were quick to criticize the forward’s casual get up and made their opinions known in the comments. Following are some fan reactions from X/Twitter:

“They all dress like bad GTA online characters.”
“Looks like he's 55, dresses like he's 12,” quipped one user.
“They couldn’t make him change his pants? Geez,” commented another fan.

Fans were not happy with the fact that Patrik Laine wore pajamas on his first day with the Habs. They believed he should have dressed up to the occasion instead of showing up in what they called ‘cow pants’.

“Dude comes to work wearing pajamas?”
“Checking out his new Fortnite skin,” joked one fan.
“I'm gonna need my guy to wear those cow pants on the ice during games,” commented another user.

Patrik Laine received a warm welcome from Canadiens teammates after trade

Since Laine put up a trade request away from Columbus, the player had been on the radar of a handful of NHL teams. When the news of his trade to the Habs broke on August 19, the player was walking his dog in the neighborhood.

He mentioned that his phone was blowing up from calls and texts, including messages from some of his new Canadiens teammates, who made him feel welcomed right away.

“My phone got pretty hot from all the calls and texts. There have been a few (Habs players) who’ve reached out, that’s much appreciated. It’s been a warm welcome, that’s been awesome for us,” Laine said. [H/T Hockey Feed]

Laine explained that the trade was necessary for him personally, as his time in Columbus wasn't the right fit for him. He felt that both he and the team needed a fresh start.

Despite this, Laine made sure to clarify that he has no hard feelings toward Columbus. He expressed gratitude for the fans and the city and said that he will fondly remember his time there.
