Fans reacted as the NHL fined Ottawa Senators forward Josh Norris $2,000 for violating Rule 64 (Diving/Embellishment). This is his second offense this season, triggering the fine under the league's graduated penalty system.
Norris received a warning for his first violation in a game against the Islanders on Nov. 7. His second violation occurred on Dec. 5 against the Detroit Red Wings.
The incident happened at 13:07 of the third period when Marco Kasper was penalized for holding. The NHL uses these fines to discourage players from diving or exaggerating to draw penalties.
NHL insider Bruce Garrioch shared Josh Norris' fine news on X (formerly Twitter), to which shared their opinions.
“They need this in soccer and basketball,” one commented.
“Haha man this league took Andlauer’s money and then turned on him quick. They love to penalize the @Senators,” another wrote.
"This has gotta be the most ridiculous thing I've seen happen to Ottawa this year. Every year something off putting happens," a fan mentioned.
The NHL tracks and reviews all diving incidents, even those not called during games. Players and coaches face increasing fines for repeat violations.
Here are some more reactions to Josh Norris on X:
"Did the NHL gave him a result on his performance X/10.... 😂," a fan shared.
"The players already subjected to massive injury- perhaps CTE. But they are concerned about diving. Just stop, " another fan shared.
"Does anyone have the clip for this fine? Can’t remember any egregious dives from Norris recently," one fan wrote.
"Add him with Stutlze and Sens turning into the all olympic diving team of the NHL. Sad stuff," a fan mentioned.
Senators secured a shutout win despite Josh Norris failing to score
Josh Norris recorded three shots on goal in 20 minutes of ice time as the Ottawa Senators beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-0 at Lenovo Center on Friday. Linus Ullmark made 32 saves.
Shane Pinto scored the first goal at 4:04 of the second period. Michael Amadio set him up after Nick Jensen forced a turnover. Pinto’s goal ended his 15-game point drought.
In the third period, Jensen made it 2-0 at 14:45, scoring five-hole on Pyotr Kochetkov off a pass from Nick Cousins. Pinto then added an empty-net goal with 47 seconds left to secure the win.
The Senators have now won four of their last five games, while the Hurricanes, who have lost five of their past seven, were unable to solve Ullmark.
