"They needed somebody to play with Celebrini" "Give us the cup now": NHL fans react as San Jose Sharks claim ex-Rangers Barclay Goodrow off waivers

NHL: Stanley Cup Playoffs-New York Rangers at Florida Panthers
San Jose Sharks claim Barclay Goodrow from New York Rangers

The San Jose Sharks have picked up Barclay Goodrow, a forward, from the New York Rangers. He was claimed off waivers. Goodrow played well in the playoffs for the Rangers. This will be his second time playing with the Sharks.

Barclay Goodrow scored six goals and eight points in 16 games in the playoffs, showcasing his strong play under pressure. But during the regular season with the Rangers, he had four goals and 12 points in 80 games.

Goodrow has a contract with the Rangers until 2024. He signed the $3.64 million per year deal in 2021. Goodrow entered the NHL without being drafted and started his career with the Sharks in 2014, where he found success.

Goodrow is a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning. In his 572 NHL games, he has scored 60 goals and totaled 169 points.

The Sharks finished last in the NHL this season, so they had the top pick on the waiver wire. This let them claim Goodrow, despite his no-trade clause for 15 teams.

Elliotte Friedman shared the news on X (formerly Twitter).

"SJ claims Goodrow," he tweeted.

NHL fans quickly reacted to the post.

"Give us the cup now," one fan tweeted.
"They needed SOMEBODY to play with Celebrini," another fan tweeted.
"Honestly a good pick-up for the Sharks. Familiarity, Veteran presence, and helps them get to the cap floor," one fan tweeted.

Here are some more reactions from NHL fans on X.

"Rangers need to use this money towards offensive help," one fan tweeted.
"He will be a good fit over there. That team needs some more leadership and they can afford his contract. He is a good player that just got overpaid. However, on a team of very young players rebuilding he will help rebuild the culture as well. They have the space," another fan tweeted.
"Why wouldn’t you wait for him to clear and get a mid round pick for taking on the contract," one X user tweeted.

Apart from Barclay Goodrow, San Jose Sharks have also acquired forward Ty Dellandrea

The San Jose Sharks have traded a 2025 fourth-round draft pick to the Dallas Stars for forward Ty Dellandrea. Dellandrea played 42 games last season with the Stars, scoring nine points and doing well in hits and penalty-killing. He also played in six playoff games in 2024 and helped the team reach the Western Conference Final.

In his NHL career, Dellandrea has played in 151 games and scored 42 points. He played 87 games with the Texas Stars in the AHL and scored 59 points. As the captain of the Flint Firebirds in the OHL, he scored 216 points in 231 games and won the OHL Commitment Award. Internationally, he won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2020 World Junior Championship.
