NHL fans on social media are buzzing as the Montreal Canadiens' iconic colors have drawn comparisons to the NFL's New York Giants' newly unveiled "Century Red" uniforms.
The Giants introduced these vibrant jerseys in May, celebrating the franchise's remarkable 100-year history since its inception in 1925. As the team took to the field for their Week 1 matchup on Sunday, the jerseys debuted, sparking lively conversations among fans.
Fans expressed their thoughts, noting the resemblance between the NY Giants' throwback uniforms and the Montreal Canadiens' classic attire.
One tweeted:
"They both suck."
Another fan chimed in with their opinion, writing:
"No wonder they suck so bad get those men some skates and sticks."
Here are some of the other top reactions on X:
"The Giants can’t do anything right. Get Arber out there and I’m sure he would dominate," said one fan.
"They fared about as well as the ACTUAL Montreal Canadiens would have in this situation," another wrote.
"The seasons will be very similar. Habs fans will tell themselves they’ll be great. Then the puck drops," commented one optimistic fan.
"Can we not besmirch the Montreal Canadiens by saying the Giants cosplayed them before getting beaten up by the Vikings. I'd say they played more like Chris Chan today," wrote another.
The New York Giants lost their Week 1 matchup 6-28 to the Minnesota Vikings.
Montreal Canadiens' Cole Caufield will switch his jersey number to #13
Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield has reportedly received special permission from the NHL to switch his jersey number from 22 to 13. This switch is a tribute to Johnny Gaudreau, a player who's inspired Caufield throughout his career.
According to reporter Alexandre Tourigny, Caufield will not have to purchase all remaining 322 jerseys, as is often the case in the NFL. Instead, he can honor Gaudreau by wearing the number 13.
"Cole Caufield won’t need to buy all the remaining inventory of jerseys with #22 (like the NFL) and the deadline to switch his number had passed but the #NHL granted him special permission to change it to #13," via Hockeyt Jerseyz on X.
The Canadiens will be back on the ice this month when they host the Philadelphia Flyers at home in a preseason clash on Sept. 23.
