Pierre-Luc Dubois' statement about his time with the Los Angeles Kings has sparked backlash from fans. The center was traded to Washington after just one season in LA where he put up 40 points in 82 games.
In an interview with La Presse's Mathias Brunet, Dubois said:
"I tried to rise to the challenge, but I stayed in a gray area all year. I didn't feel at home. The players helped me... "I wanted it to unlock, but it just didn't work."
This statement did not sit well with fans, who felt Dubois was making excuses for his lackluster performance.
One fan commented on Twitter/X,
"Excuses. This bum has never felt at home clearly."
Many are questioning Dubois' effort and commitment during his short tenure in Los Angeles.
"Just another chapter in what will likely prove to be an uneventful career, for Pierre-Luc Dubois. Some guys just don’t have it between the ears. Others refuse to adapt. Not sure where he fits tbh." another fan commented.
Here are some fan reactions:
"He already had a track record. For that trade alone, Blake should have been fired." one fan wrote on X.
"That’s what happens when u bury him on 3rd and 4th line" another fan wrote.
"To this day the Jets have been the biggest beneficiary of Dubois’ whole Tour de LNH." a user commented.
"This quote is useless because he doesn’t ever feel at home anywhere. Maybe he should just quit hockey haha" another user wrote.
Pierre-Luc Dubois eyes long-term stay with Washington Capitals
Pierre-Luc Dubois told Mathias Brunet that he is excited about the future with the Capitals and wants to remain in Washington for years to come.
"I enjoyed my conversations with them. Not just the coach, but Brian MacLellan, Tom Wilson...I've been following the Capitals since I joined the league. The city, the arena," Dubois said.
"I watched (Alex) Ovechkin on TV when I was young, and I had it in my head to come back East. All that together, I've been lucky."
Dubois clicked right away with new head coach Spencer Carbery, who took time to get to know Dubois on a personal level before even discussing hockey.
"This time, unlike in Los Angeles, we expect to be here for a long time." Dubois added.
Dubois signed an eight-year, $68 million contract ($8.5 million AAV) with the LA Kings last year which runs till the 2030-31 season. He was traded to the Capitals in June 2024.
