The New York Islanders have been struggling, losing five of their last six games, leaving Patrick Roy and his team miserable. They are 8-10-5, sixth in the Metropolitan Division with 21 points. Their only win during this stretch was against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.
This has led Islanders coach Patrick Roy to comment about his team's roster after the loss to the Boston Bruins on Wednesday.
"I love these guys. They work hard. They're pushing. It's the team that Lou gave me, and I'm going to work extremely hard for these guys," Roy said, via Newsday's Andrew Gross.
Fans reacted to Roy's statement on X. Some interpreted his remark as a possible dig at Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello.
"Throwing Lou under the bus, love it!" one fan wrote.
"Lmaooo , if you don’t think Roy is throwing digs at Lou then idk what to tell you. He’s clearly not happy at all with some of Lou’s roster decisions. Roy is a good coach. Lou and a bunch of these players need to go. It’s time," another fan said.
"The big flaw of the organizational mindset is that just making the playoffs is OK (meaning the 7th or 8th seed). The core of this team has won a lot of fun playoff games (and rounds) over the past 6 years. The time for a partial rebuild of the team has arrived," one fan wrote.
Here are more reactions to Patrick Roy's comment:
"Fire the dude and let him enjoy his holidays. seems like a good guy but can’t coach" a fan commented.
"Andrew, I hope you're pushing on this stuff because it's quite clear what he's getting at. Roy has to front up to press each night but Lou is getting a free ride with accountability..." one fan said.
"Roy is a good coach Lou is the one that needs to go. Where the hell is ownership in all of this," one fan wrote.
