Toronto Sceptres forward Natalie Spooner swapped out her skates for a pair of heels for a special occasion on New Year’s Eve. The women’s hockey superstar shared a carousel of photos on Instagram showing her dressed up for a party.

Natalie received the IIHF Female Player of the Year award for the 2023-24 season from IIHF President Luc Tardif during a home game between the Sceptres and the Ottawa Charge.

The PWHL player turned on the glamour for the ceremony at the rink, dressed in a gold skirt, black blouse and fur jacket.

“New years eve at the rink,” Spooner captioned.

Fans, teammates and fellow PWHL hockey players congratulated Spooner with positive and supportive reactions and comments.

“Ringing in the New Year in style,” the Toronto Sceptres’ official account commented.
“That’s our golden ticket,” Spooner's teammate Raygan Kirk wrote.

Spooner won 33.6% of the votes, beating Alex Carpenter of the New York Sirens and Montreal Victoire’s Marie-Philip Poulin. The IIHF said that the award recognizes achievements at both the IIHF level (Women’s Worlds, World U18 Women’s) and in a domestic league of the highest caliber.

"We were honoured to take part in awarding Natalie Spooner with her 2024 IIHF Female Player of the Year Award alongside IIHF President, Luc Tardif," Toronto Sceptres posted on Instagram on Thursday.

Calling last year a "whirlwind," Spooner said that she experienced many amazing moments.

"And, obviously, I wouldn’t be getting this award without my teammates who push me every day and help me, and then Team Canada bringing gold back to Canada at the Women’s Worlds,” Spooner said after the presentation, via IIHF.com.

Natalie Spooner wants to score more goals for her teams

Natalie Spooner talked about her strengths on the ice and her desire to score more goals in the PWHL and for the Canada women’s team.

“I think my role on both teams is the same — a power forward who can take pucks to the net — be a really good net presence on the power play or five-on-five," Spooner said, via IIHF.com. "So I think it’s really just creating those opportunities to bury pucks.”

The forward had an excellent inaugural PWHL season with the Toronto Sceptres, bagging the Billie Jean King MVP and the Forward of the Year awards. She was the league leader in goals (20) and points scored (27).

Spooner also played a big part in helping Canada secure gold at the Women’s Worlds 2024, scoring a goal and four points at the tournament.
