NHL fans have reacted to the viral clip of the Edmonton Oilers locker room in the aftermath of their Game 7 loss to the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final. Edmonton rallied from being down 3-0 in the series to force a Game 7, but lost the decider 2-1.
After the heartbreaking loss, the Oilers released a video of the locker room as part of their documentary series, and it showed the team stunned by the loss. Not many players were talking as they couldn't believe what happened, while some were also crying.
It was a heartbreaking defeat and the Oilers players were hurt by it. Fans took to social media to react to the viral video.
"Tough to watch, probably the worst feeling they’ve ever had. Not for Perry tho 4 of the last 5 years had the same feeling," a fan wrote.
"The Oilers deserve better than this. To see the Oilers lose to the Panthers is sheer heartbreak. The Oilers deserve to win the Stanley Cup. Even the Leafs deserve to win the Stanley Cup too instead of Florida. The Panthers only won because they cry to the refs everytime," a fan added.
Oilers forward Zach Hyman ended up speaking during the video and telling his team that they would be back in the Cup Final and next time, they would win.
"As panther fans we felt it just the year before. Sucks but hopefully it makes them come back stronger," a fan wrote.
"Hyman is such a god damn stud. Unreal player and voice in the room," a fan added.
It was a heartbreaking video to watch as the Oilers players had their lifelong dreams of winning the Stanley Cup crushed. But some fans who don't like the Oilers were happy to see it.
"LOL inject this into my veins," a fan added.
"This made my week! Go Flames," another fan wrote.
Oilers fans especially felt hurt watching the video, but even neutral observers would have sympathized with the losing team's players.
Connor McDavid says getting over Oilers Cup Final loss will take some time
After the Oilers lost the Stanley Cup Final, Connor McDavid said that it will take time to get over the loss. But McDavid says he is proud of what his team accomplished this year.
"It's obviously disappointing, it's frustrating," he said (via CBC). "There's only one team that can win, unfortunately. But I'm very proud of what we've been through this year... There were lots of happy moments throughout these playoffs, for sure. A lot of great moments that I'll remember for the rest of my life."
The Oilers will open their 2024 season at home on Oct. 9 against the Winnipeg Jets.
