The Carolina Hurricanes have signed Martin Necas for two more years. The 25-year-old forward's contract is worth $13 million, with an average annual value of $6.5 million. The announcement was made on X (formerly Twitter).

NHL fans had mixed reactions to the news on X.

"Trade him. He has no leverage now," one fan said.
"Unreal, can’t believe he signed that," another fan added.
"Didn't he ask for a trade at one point? What changed," one X user asked.

Take a look at some more reactions from NHL fans on X.

"Good deal for him to prove it or lose it. Now do Jarvis!!" a fan tweeted.
"Trade him he doesn’t wanna be here," a fan commented.
"hope he enjoys being misused more! to think you could’ve given him the chance to play on a contender," one fan opined.

Necas recently completed a two-year deal worth $6 million, signed in August 2022. The Hurricanes' playoff run ended in the second round against the New York Rangers.

Necas hails from Nove Mesto na Morave, Czechia, and has represented his country twice at the World Championship. He contributed to a gold medal victory on home soil in May.

Carolina Hurricanes and forward Martin Necas inked the deal after a long negotiation

The Carolina Hurricanes' agreement with Necas comes as one of the last pieces of business for the team this offseason.

Martin Necas, who was set for a salary arbitration hearing on August 4, has secured a two-year deal. This follows the signing of Jack Drury to a two-year, $3.45 million contract.

“We’re continuing to talk to his agent, trying to negotiate a deal,” said Eric Tulsky, the Hurricanes' Assistant General Manager, via NHL.com.

The 25-year-old forward is coming off a two-year contract worth $3 million AAV.

"We have put everything on the table from one year to eight years," Tulsky added. "So, it's a question of figuring out whether there's something that makes sense for both sides."

Last season, Necas had 53 points, which included 24 goals in 77 regular-season games and nine points including four goals in 11 playoff games. Necas was picked 12th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft. He has 97 goals and 243 points from 362 regular-season games.
