Nick Robertson's stellar preseason performance has Toronto Maple Leafs fans speculating about the young forward's future with the team. The 23-year-old winger has scored an impressive five goals in the last three preseason games, including two against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night.

Robertson's recent offensive explosion has reignited discussions about his potential and role within the Maple Leafs organization.

One fan commented,

"Trade him now - peak value"
"time to trade him," another fan seconded.

Another fan wanted Robertson to remain in Toronto.

"He better make the team."

Here are some other fan reactions:

"As a leafs fan hopefully we see this scoring touch in the regular season" one fan wrote on X.
"There’s no justification for Robertson not being in the opening night lineup. Guy had to be good and he’s been lethal." another fan wrote.
"i mean thats how all his preseasons go. he lights the lamp and then when he gets a shot during the season he disappears to a average player lol we'll see what happens this year." a user commented.

Robertson signed a one-year, $875,000 contract in September. He scored 27 points last season in 56 games. As the regular season approaches, all eyes will be on the Maple Leafs to see how they navigate Robertson's future.

NHL analyst on Nick Robertson's future with the Maple Leafs

On Wednesday, NHL analyst David Alter weighed in on young forward Nick Robertson's chances of making the opening night roster for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season.

Alter believes Robertson has made a strong case to start the season with the big club after his impressive performance in Thursday's preseason game against the Ottawa Senators.

"Safe to say Nick Robertson has shown enough that he should be in the opening night lineup." David Alter tweeted.

Alter says that given Robertson's strong preseason showing, the Leafs likely want to avoid putting him on waivers, where he would almost certainly be claimed by another team. If he can continue contributing offensively while being responsible defensively, Alter believes his roster spot should be secure.

Alter also points out that goaltender Joseph Woll is likely to play in the final pre-season game, but his limited action and impressive .964 save percentage raise questions about whether Anthony Stolarz should start on opening night instead.
