Fans reacted as the Pittsburgh Penguins opened their 2024-25 season with a disappointing 6-0 loss to the New York Rangers on Wednesday. Goaltender Tristan Jarry allowed six goals on 41 shots.

Pittsburgh Penguins fans were understandably frustrated with the lopsided result. Many took to social media to vent their disappointment.

One wrote:

"Tristan Jarry needs to be waived immediately."

Another posted:

"You guys dominated us, and you earned that W. Good luck the rest of the season. See you guys next time."

Here are some more fan reactions:

"I'm sorry. But I saw zero fight tonight. You gave up on day one. Unacceptable," one fan wrote on X.
"Dubas couldn't get the Leafs out of the first round. What's different in Pittsburgh. Not making the playoffs last year. Does anyone think Dubas will build this team to win because not addressing goaltending means everything," another fan wrote.
"Keep pinching & keep having the worst transition defense in hockey when your tender is swiss cheese in net instead of buckling things up a bit," a user commented.
"Getting blanked 6 nothing plus having a horrific night on the power play while allowing a short hand on top of that the team looks worse than last year is what you call fighting back ???. What a joke," another user commmented.

The game saw the Rangers dominate from start to finish. Goals from Sam Carrick, Filip Chytil, Chris Kreider (twice), Alexis Lafreniere and Vincent Trocheck powered the Rangers offense, while goaltender Igor Shesterkin stopped all 29 shots he faced for the shutout.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will look to bounce back against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night.

Evgeni Malkin's comments after the Pittsburgh Penguins' heavy loss to the New York Rangers

Star center Evgeni Malkin voiced his disappointment after the game, lamenting that the team failed to get anything going offensively despite trying to fight back. He said post-game:

"We fought back but nothing worked tonight. ... This whole team lost, and we need to focus on tomorrow. Back-to-back games, tough loss, but we need to talk a little bit tomorrow and play better."

After the lopsided loss, he knows that the team needs to analyze what went wrong but can't let the poor performance linger for too long.
