Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson picked up his 22nd win of the season on Tuesday against the Edmonton Oilers. Thompson stopped 30 out of 32 shots, although one of those shots was unlike the others.

The Capitals were angry as a tray full of nachos was thrown on the ice during Corey Perry's third-period goal to cut the Caps' lead down to 3–2. Thompson and several other players on the ice immediately reacted pointing at the nacho tray.

The goal stood and the ice-crew cleaned up the debris to continue with the remainder of the game. It was a strange scene that the officials didn't know how to handle.

It's all in jest knowing that Washington grabbed a 3–2 win. After the game, the Capitals netminder was asked about the strange situation and had a funny response.

“We just talked about that in the coaches' office," Thompson said. "I don't think I've ever seen a nachos-on-the-ice National Hockey League game. Did they save them? Maybe we can bring them into the locker room."

Oiler fans were trying to do anything to distract Logan Thompson who's been extremely difficult to beat this season. The Nachos didn't phase the Calgary, Alberta native enough as he shut the door from that point onward.

Logan Thompson has been a phenomenal offseason acquisition by the Washington Capitals

Logan Thompson was traded from the Vegas Golden Knights to the Washington Capitals this offseason in exchange for multiple third-round picks. That trade has done wonders for Washington.

Thompson is having a Vezina trophy-caliber season. He has an astonishing 22-2-3 record, with a 2.09 goals against average, a .925 save percentage, and two shutouts. Without Connor Hellebuyck, Thompson would undoubtedly be the favorite to earn some hardware for his brilliance this season. You have to wonder how he wasn't one of the three goaltenders chosen to represent Team Canada at the upcoming Four Nations Face-Off tournament.

The only negative for the Capitals is that they need to work on extending the contract of their pending UFA goaltender. Thompson is in the final year of his three-year, $2,299,999 contract with the Golden Knights, which he signed in 2022. His dominance this season could set him up to receive a massive pay raise from his current $766,667 annually.

Thompson and the Caps continue a five-game western road trip on Thursday night against the Seattle Kraken. The puck drops at 10 p.m. at Climate Pledge Arena.
