Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson spoke about the challenge of facing the Edmonton Oilers, who are led by star players Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Wilson has had a strong season so far. He has scored 19 goals and given 15 assists, with 34 total points in the 2024-25 season.

Wilson told NHL.com’s Tom Gulitti:

“It’s always a test against them.”

Wilson particularly highlighted McDavid as one of the best players in the world who can make life difficult for any team.

“You’ve got one of the best players in the world. On any given night, he’s going to show up and he’s going to make your life difficult. So, we’ll enjoy this one, travel out there and be ready for it,” Wilson added.

The Washington Capitals are in a good position, with points in 10 straight games (7-0-3), their best streak since 2019. Wilson and the Capitals would be ready for the game after their current win streak.

Washington leads the NHL with 67 points, two ahead of the Winnipeg Jets. After a slow start, the Oilers have also been playing well. They have a 19-5-1 record in their last 25 games. The Oilers have been strong, but the Capitals have been better, with added depth and improved play.

Washington has made important changes this season. The team added several players, including Jakob Chychrun, Pierre-Luc Dubois and goalie Logan Thompson.

Chychrun has been good, scoring 13 goals. Thompson has earned two straight shutouts. Despite not scoring as many goals recently, Washington has won games by focusing on defense and goaltending.

Washington Capitals coach Spencer Carbery talked about the team's performance

The Washington Capitals are a much stronger team than last year when they barely made the playoffs. Coach Spencer Carbery has helped the team stay competitive, but he believes they need to keep improving.

“I think we’re happy and the guys should be real proud of where we’re at thus far in the year … and we’ll just continue to build and continue to grind,” Carbery said, per NHL.com. “We’ve done a good job.
"We’ve put ourselves in a real good spot, and now it’s on us to continue that through this last little stretch before the 4 Nations break and then when we get back, we’ll be energized and ready to go for the final stretch.”

As they prepare to play the Edmonton Oilers, the Washington Capitals are confident. McDavid is a top player, but other players can also be a threat.
