The Calgary Flames scored two goals within 8 seconds within the first minute of the game in their OT win against the New York Rangers.
The first goal came 38 seconds into the first period when Andrew Mangiapane skated flawlessly with the puck away from a Rangers defender and brought the goalie off his line to scoop it into the net.
Just after kickoff, the Rangers gave the puck to Jonathan Huberduau, who set up Nazem Kadri for the Flames' second goal in under ten seconds. This was Kadri's 27th goal of the 2022-23 NHL season.
According to the Calgary Flames' tweet, they are the first team in NHL history to score 2 goals in the opening minute of the game, twice in the same season.
The New York Rangers looked to make a comeback off of Vladimir Tarasenko's goal in the second period. The goal was built up by the frontline of Trocheck-Panarin-Tarasenko, giving the Rangers' offense a menacing look.
The Rangers equalized with just 7 minutes left to play when Alexis Lafreniere's shot trickled into the back of the net.
To the Flames' dismay, Nazem Kadri was given a 10-minute suspension for game misconduct as the game entered overtime.
HC Darryl Stutter confirmed that Kadri was handed a suspension for repeatedly arguing his third-period penalty.
1:28 into OT, Mikael Backlund tipped in a shot from Jonathan Huberdeau to give the Flames the win in overtime. This was the 33-year-old Swedish center's eleventh goal of the season.
