Things got heated in the third period of Thursday's matchup between the Vancouver Canucks and the Colorado Avalanche.

Canucks defenseman Elias Pettersson dropped his gloves with Avalanche forward Logan O'Connor in a spirited fight near the net. They exchanged a flurry of punches before Pettersson wrestled O'Connor down to the ice, bringing the bout to a close.

Elias Pettersson and Logan O'Connor were both given five-minute major penalties for fighting. It was the first NHL fight for Pettersson.

Kiefer Sherwood compares Elias Pettersson to Mike Tyson

Elias Pettersson's teammate Kiefer Sherwood shared his thoughts about Pettersson's fight against Logan O'Connor, comparing him to Mike Tyson.

Sherwood mentioned that Pettersson had been eager for the fight, and they had discussed it previously:

"He's been looking for it for a little bit, we kind of talked about it last night a little bit actually," Sherwood said post-game. "I thought he looked like Mike Tyson, just throwing them, taking them, and throwing them more."

Meanwhile, the Canucks, who have been eliminated from playoff contention, defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-1 at Ball Arena on Thursday.

The Canucks will end their regular season against the Vegas Golden Knights on April 16. Before that, they will be playing against the San Jose Sharks and Minnesota Wild.
