David Pastrnak scored the winning goal in an overtime thriller against the Dallas Stars, giving the Boston Bruins their 40th win of the season and further cementing their No. 1 position in the NHL.

He fetched a pass from Charlie McAvoy and snapped it into the left corner of the goal whilst falling off.

NHL Twitter reacted to Pastrnak's OT winner and the Bruins' victory against the Stars:

"The Bruins are an outlier. The overwhelming majority (Penguins, Capitals, Kings, Blackhawks, Lightning, Avalanche) all tanked for years. As with everything- it’s all about playing the statistics." tweeted Doctor_habs
"WOW!!!!!! Bruins really leveled up with their 3-2 OT in Dallas — spectacular game. Pastrnak with the game-winner, and yep Jack yeppp, you are right on: “This is why we love the NHL.” #bruins" tweeted NaokoFunayama

Taylor Hall scored the first goal for the Boston Bruins 10:33 into the first period from a Hampus Lindholm assist.

Two minutes later, Roope Hintz equalized for the Dallas Stars with a backhand shot into the net, bringing his tally to 23 goals for the season. It was Jason Robertson's 37th assist of the season.

Robertson then scored his 34th goal of the season 4:17 into the second period with a shot between Linus Ullmark's legs. The assist from Joe Pavelski was his 36th assist. The Dallas Stars led 2-1 heading into the third period.

Pavel Zacha hit the back of the net from a snap shot into the top-right corner from the left wing and tied the game at 2-2.

David Pastrnak then scored the winning goal in overtime to give the Boston Bruins their 40th win of the season.

This was Pastrnak's 39th goal of the season and he is just three goals behind Connor McDavid, the league leader in goals. He does have competition from Tage Thompson, Jack Hughes and Mikko Rantanen, so it will be interesting to see which of these offensive experts finishes at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the season.
