How Florida Panthers downed Utah Hockey Club
On Wednesday, the Utah Hockey Club hosted the Florida Panthers at Delta Center. The Panthers edged past Utah with a dominating 4-1 win.
Sam Reinhart opened the scoring for the Panthers, giving them a 1-0 lead on the power play 1:05 into the second period. Coming into the third period, Jesper Boqvist extended the lead to 2-0 for the defending Stanley Cup champions at 1:48.
"Really complete effort there to close up the road trip, we played a full [60 minutes],” Boqvist said via NHL.com. “They had a lot of [power play] chances, but we stuck with it, stayed with it, and got two points here."
Logan Cooleu then scored on the power play for Utah, making it 2-1. However, with less than three minutes remaining, Boqvist and Eetu Luostarinen each scored an empty-net goal to seal the win for Florida.
"He’s earned it. We've used him on the left and right wing. He's played center for us. He's played with different people, but he's a really competitive guy, and I think that that line with [Anton Lundell] and [Carter] Verhaeghe creates quickness and some jump," Panthers coach Paul Maurice said.
"You like to see the guys who've played hard all year in the first half get a little reward at this time and set themselves up for a really strong second half," he added.
The Cats improved their record to 25-15-2 and remain second in the Atlantic Division. Florida hosts the Boston Bruins (20-18-5) next at Amerant Bank Arena on Friday.
