Columbus Blue Jackets enforcer Mathieu Olivier dropped the gloves against Calgary Flames forward Ryan Lomberg. The heavyweight bout delivered some eye-catching moments, leaving fans cheering as the two combatants duked it out on the ice.

The showdown happened in the dying moments of the Blue Jackets-Flames tilt on Friday evening at Nationwide Arena.

Here’s a look at the incident:

Olivier took the win in this matchup as the pummeled Lomberg with some heavy right hits, knocking him down on the ice. However, Lomberg got in his share of strong punches as well.

The officials soon got involved, breaking up the fight after Lomberg hit the ice. Meanwhile, Olivier skated away with a smile on his face as his teammates stick-tapped him to show their support and respect. The crowd at Nationwide Arena rose to its feet as both gladiators headed to their respective dressing rooms.

Each combatant subsequently got a fighting major for the altercation. It’s worth pointing out that Olivier had also gotten a fighting penalty earlier in the period after he engaged with Calgary’s Martin Pospisil. Oliver finished the game with 12 total penalty minutes. Furthermore, he failed to register on the scoresheet.

Columbus will be back in action on Sunday afternoon against the Chicago Blackhawks, looking to continue climbing the Metro Division standings. The Blue Jackets have been on a roll lately, getting big wins over the Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes and now Calgary Flames.

The Flames and Blue Jackets will have a rematch on Tuesday, with the Flames looking to avenge Friday night’s defeat.
