In an OHL matchup on Sunday, a notable goalie fight unfolded between the Niagara IceDogs' Owen Flores and the Brampton Steelheads' Jack Ivankovic, capturing the attention of 3,289 fans at Meridian Centre.

The altercation occurred six minutes into the second period when Niagara netminder Flores skated out to his blue line and challenged Brampton goalie Ivankovic, leading to a brief but intense exchange of punches near the center ice.

The two OHL goalies threw haymakers in what turned into a heavy tilt. Flores ultimately dominated the fight, taking down Ivankovic while players from both teams engaged in their own tussles.

Steelheads face first defeat of 2024-25 OHL season

The Brampton Steelheads faced their first loss of the OHL season, falling 7-3 to the Niagara IceDogs.

Niagara's offense proved formidable, especially in the second half of a doubleheader, where a standout performance by Kevin He with six points led the IceDogs to victory.

In the postgame statement, IceDogs coach Ben Boudreau emphasized the importance of teamwork and camaraderie among his players during the scrums.

He said (via BPSN):

“I’m pretty happy for 59 minutes and 20 seconds of the game. You never want to get scored on on your first shot, first shift, in the first 15 seconds. It could have gone the other way but this is the script and the resiliency of our team and I think we’re starting to see a trend a little bit.
"You can see in any type of scrums so we’ve got five guys in there and what we call a dog pack, where if one’s in trouble, we got five guys coming. We do everything as brethren in there and I think it’s really starting to show."

The IceDogs return to the ice on Friday in their next OHL fixture against the Owen Sound Attack. Meanwhile, the Steelheads will be up against the Windsor Spitfires.
