During their matcup on Tuesday, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and New Jersey Devils' Michael McLeod got into a scuffle near the wall.
Here's a video of the scuffle between the players:
During the first period, Devils forward Michael McLeod pushed Penguins defenseman Brian Dumoulin into the advertising boards with extreme force.
Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was not pleased with this and immediately ran towards McLeod and shoved him against the shield wall, forcing match officials to intervene to prevent an altercation between the two players.
Thankfully, Brian Dumoulin did not receive any serious injuries. However, following this scary play from the Devils forward, the referee did not issue a penalty and the play continued afterwards. "Sid the Kid" demonstrates excellent leadership qualities and serves as an inspiration to many players throughout the league.
Across his 18-year NHL career, Crosby has seldom had moments where he loses his cool and aggravates a situation. Back in February, during a game against the LA Kings, 'The Next One' received his career's first game misconduct, which automatically ejected him from the game.
What's next for Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins?
The Pittsburgh Penguins (38-30-10) were defeated 5-1 by the New Jersey Devils (49-21-8) at the Prudential Center on Tuesday. The team had 23 SOGs on the night, but only Bryan Rust was able to put the puck in the net.
The Penguins have recently struggled to find consistency. With this loss, the team has dropped out of the Wild Card spot. However, they are still in contention to make the playoffs if they win as many games in their remaining four games.
They are only one point away from climbing back into the East Wild Card standings. Meanwhile, Sidney Crosby currently leads the goal scoring chart for the team with 88 points.
Following the defeat on Tuesday, Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan spoke to the media and said (via NHL.com):
"We're looking at the game right in front of us. We're disappointed tonight. We didn't get the result. We didn't play well enough. We got outplayed. All we can do is figure out what we can take from it and try to apply it to the next game. … We're going to have to stay in the fight here. We're still in it."
Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins will next be in action against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, April 6.
