Sidney Crosby just reminded everyone why he is one of the best players in the sport of hockey.
At the 11-minute mark of the second period, Crosby took the puck down the left side and was maneuvering behind the net when he flicked a pass to Jake Guentzel. The entire Sharks' defense was fooled into thinking that Crosby would go around the goal and to the other side, but the veteran outsmarted them.
NHL Twitter went bonkers at Crosby's assist and had some great reactions,
"Not sure what was better about this play, the goal by Jake Guentzel or the setup pass by Sidney Crosby. #LetsGoPens" tweeted rachelmlenzi
"Sidney Crosby will always be in my opinion the greatest hockey player to ever live." bspencer14
"The Penguins have taken a 2-0 lead. It's Jake Guentzel with the goal. Absolutely ridiculous assist from Crosby. The ol' Sean Bergenheim, Dominic Moore play." tweeted DannyShireyPGH
"Sidney Crosby at 35 yr young.... Still the Best #PITvsSJS" tweeted Jeffs_Penguins
"That’s a disgusting pass from Crosby" tweeted HunterHodies
"With two assists tonight, Sidney Crosby records his 13th season of 40+ assists, most among active players. (Backstrom, Kane, Kopitar: all 12)" tweeted Pensburgh
Rickard Rakell scored the first goal for the Penguins in the first period from a Jeff Petry assist.
Jake Guentzel scored his 22nd goal of the season from Crosby's sublime assist.
Timo Meier got one back for the Sharks and made it 2-1, but the Guenztel-Crosby duo teamed up to score another goal in the last minute of the game. Crosby assisted on all three goals tonight.
Since January 16, Crosby has 17 points in his last 11 games. Only Matthew Tkachuk (22 points in 13 games played) has more points.
Sidney Crosby's 2022-23 season so far
'The Next One' is having an amazing 2022-23 NHL season so far. In the 52 games he has played, he has 62 points from 24 goals and 38 assists.
He is projected to have 98 points by the end of the season and may even be close to yet another 100-point season.
With this win, the Penguins are fourth in the Metropolitan Division with a 27-17-9 record. They might make a deep run into the playoffs if they keep their form up and pick up some missing pieces for the team before the March 3 trade deadline.
