Florida Panthers superstar forward Matthew Tkachuk was playing at the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Lake Tahoe on Friday.
It is a popular golf tournament that attracts plenty of athletes. Tkachuk was playing in the tourney, and he used a hockey stick as a putter, just like Happy Gilmore did in the famous movie.
It was funny for Tkachuk to use a hockey stick and after his round, he signed the stick and gave it to a lucky fan.
It was a cool moment as the fan seemed appreciative that Tkachuk not only gave them the stick but also signed it.
Matthew Tkachuk helped lead the Panthers to the Stanley Cup
Matthew Tkachuk and the Florida Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers in seven games to win the Stanley Cup.
Tkachuk and the Panthers lost to the Vegas Golden Knights in the Finals last year. After getting to a 3-0 series lead in 2024, Florida lost three straight games but was able to win Game 7.
"We were such a great team all year and at the end of the day, winning the Stanley Cup shouldn't be easy,” Tkachuk said, via Forbes. “Winning it in four would have been awesome. But it's probably not how it should have been. It was always us in seven. That's what we've been saying. Doesn't matter how we got there, but going into Game 7, we were very, very comfortable.”
Florida relied on its depth all season long, which Tkachuk said was the key to the team winning the Stanley Cup.
“I think that our depth this year — that's how we got to the playoffs — and that's how we ended up winning it all,” Tkachuk said. “We had so many guys play just so solid. It was a full team effort. I felt like the year before, we were kind of just a bunch of bad boys riding the wave to the Finals.”
Last season, Matthew Tkachuk recorded 26 goals and 62 assists for 88 points in 80 games. In the playoffs, he added six goals and 16 assists for 22 points in 24 games.
