Birthday wishes poured in for former NHL superstar Wayne Gretzky, who turned 64 on Sunday. Gretzky’s eldest daughter, Paulina, shared a special message for his father.
“Happy birthday to the best dad!! Love you forever…your magoo @waynegretzky,” Paulina wrote.
She also shared glimpses of "The Great One’s" unique birthday party. Paulina posted reels featuring the Gretzky family on a private jet, on their way to watch the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills. Coincidentally, the AFC and NFC championship games were scheduled on Gretzky’s birthday this year.
One of the reels showed Gretzky with family and friends on a private jet decked with balloons and streamers. Other posts included a picture showing the backs of two kids watching the Chiefs play the Bills from a special VIP box. The posts also showed many people, including Paulina, in Buffalo Bills gear.
Gretzky, who won four Stanley Cup championships with the Edmonton Oilers, has a surprising connection to football. The hockey legend jointly purchased the CFL's Toronto Argonauts Football Club in 1991 along with then-LA Kings owner Bruce McNall and Hollywood actor John Candy. That same year, the Argonauts won the Grey Cup in Canada.
Gretzky is part of an elite and limited club of people whose names appear on both the Stanley and Grey Cups.
Wayne Gretzky’s wife Janet and son Trevor share birthday wishes
On Sunday, Wayne Gretzky’s wife Janet shared a special birthday message expressing her love for him.
“Happy Birthday to the Greatest One in every way !!! You continue to be a very Special One to all of us ♥️ We all Love you !!!” Janet wrote on Instagram.
The post included a video montage of some of the memorable moments from Janet and Wayne’s life, with Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett's famous hit “New York, New York” playing in the background.
Trevor Gretzky also posted a rinkside photo of him with his father and brothers Ty and Tristan. The picture was likely taken in St. Louis, Missouri, during the 2017 NHL Winter Classic Alumni Game.
“Happy birthday Dad ♥️Love you,” Trevor captioned.
In the photo, Gretzky and Tristan were wearing St Louis Blues jerseys. Wayne was also in full hockey gear and held a stick.
