The Boston Bruins dropped a tough 4-3 game against the Florida Panthers at the TD Garden on Monday afternoon. The Panthers, missing team captain Alexander Barkov, and star Matthew Tkachuk edged the Bruins with a strong, physical game.
Following the game, fans took to social media to comment on the Boston Bruins’ loss on home ice. Here’s a look at what these fans had to say:
“A tale as old as time,” a fan opined.
“Florida Panthers Really own the Bruins,” another fan weighed in.
“We own you,” this fan commented.
Meanwhile, some fans searched for a bright spot amid the tough home loss. Let’s take a closer look at how these fans tried to flip the script on the situation:
“Hopefully we don’t play the Panthers in the playoffs ever again,” a fan commented.
“Regular season means nothing…” another fan commented.
“Are Hampus and Coyle out on IR this year? Haven’t seen them yet. Let’s hope they get out there soon,” this fan remarked.
The Boston Bruins are now 2-2 on the season. The two losses for Boston have come against the Panthers, including the season opener. In last season's Stanley Cup Playoffs, Florida eliminated Boston in a six-game second-round series.
These teams will meet again on Jan. 11 at Amerant Bank Arena.
Boston Bruins drop the gloves early in the game
The Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers got into fisticuffs early in the first period following a series of controversial hits.
First, Bruins’ forward Pavel Zacha confronted A.J. Greer following Greer’s hit on Bruins’ sniper David Pastrnak. The confrontation erupted into a fight, leaving both combatants in the penalty box with major penalties.
A few moments later, Pastrnak landed a late hit on the Panthers’ Sam Reinhart. Pastrnak got the gate for interference. Meanwhile, Panthers’ blueliner Nate Schmidt confronted Pastrnak, drawing a reaction from Bruins’ captain Brad Marchand. Marchand dropped the gloves in defense of Pastrnak, taking on Schmidt.
In total, both clubs combined for two fights and 26 total penalty minutes in the first alone. When all was said and done, the Bruins totaled 21 PIM while the Panthers 19. While things cooled down following the first-period mayhem, the physical pace continued throughout the contest.
The final hit count favored the Bruins 39-35. However, the number that mattered most was on the scoreboard. Reinhart scored a shorthanded goal to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead, eventually taking the matchup 4-3.
Reinhart also added a power play to land the game’s first star.
