Alexis Lafrenière was added to Team Canada’s squad for the 2020 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in December 2019. As Lafrenière collided with Russian goaltender Amir Miftakhov in the second period of the team's 6-4 victory over the United States, he sustained a lower-body injury. It took some time to recover as a result of which he had to miss a couple of games.
