Former Pittsburgh Penguins forward prospect Adam Johnson was involved in a horrific incident while playing for the Nottingham Panthers of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) in England.

Several hours after the freak incident, the Nottingham Panthers confirmed Adam Johnson's death on their social media.

Their tweet reads:

"The Nottingham Panthers are truly devastated to announce that Adam Johnson has tragically passed away following a freak accident at the game in Sheffield last night."

The team has requested fans to respect his family's privacy during this difficult time. The entire hockey community is mourning the loss of Johnson, with tributes pouring in for the forward's family from all across the globe.

The game between the Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers was cut short after Adam Johnson's neck was cut by a skate blade.
