NHL fans on social media were annoyed after learning that Blue Jackets forward Patrik Laine has reportedly requested a trade out of Columbus.
During the latest segment of TSN's Insider Trading, top insider Pierre LeBrun suggested that a key focus for the Columbus Blue Jackets this offseason is to part ways with Laine.
The insider also said that Laine's agent has spoken with the organization. Both parties will work together to try to get that done, with Patrik Laine looking for a fresh start in his career, which he hasn't been able to get in Columbus.
Here's how NHL fans on X (formerly Twitter) reacted to the news, with one tweeting:
"What a train wreck of a career, wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole uless he was willing to sign for league minimum"
Another fan joined the conversation and opined that Laine hasn't been enjoying his career wherever he goes:
"Dude is not happy anywhere he goes"
"If he ever gets serious about the game, it would be nice to see. Once upon a time he almost beat Matthews out for the Calder. Nutty to think how long he has been in league and is only just 26 years old. He could be scoring 50 goals a year!" said another.
Here are some of the other top reactions on X:
One fan speculated the possibility of the New York Rangers being the next destination for Patrik Laine, as they tweeted:
"I'm sure the Rangers will make a move for him and they'll pop champagne like they did with Patrick Kane and then it won't work out and he'll be gone in 2 years"
"Dude is going to be a problem anywhere he goes, 40 goal scorer isnt even 26 yet & about to be on his 3rd team," posted another.
“LaInE iS bEtTeR tHaN mAtTeWs” How many “fresh” starts does this guy need in his career?" another opined.
Patrik Laine joined the Player Assistance Program in January. It's worth noting that the 26-year-old forward is still receiving care in the program. The organization will only trade him once he comes out of the program.

Patrik Laine will be changing teams for the third time in his career
If the Blue Jackets trade Laine during the offseason or anytime before the 2024–25 season starts, it will mark the third different team for Laine in his brief eight-year career.
Patrik Laine was drafted second overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2016 NHL draft. After five years in Winnipeg, the Jets traded him to the Blue Jackets in the 2020-21 season.
Laine has been with the Blue Jackets for the last four seasons and has two years remaining on his $34.8 million contract.
