The Tampa Bay Lightning lost their sixth game on the trot by a margin of six goals to nil. The Lightning traveled to Carolina after showing promise in their last game. But it all faded out as they could not score a single goal and lost all the periods, conceding two goals in each of them.
The Hurricanes dominated the game and allowed the Lightning to make only 18 shots. They also scored four goals during a power play and won 54.5 percent of the faceoffs in the total game. Jesperi Kotkaniemi did the job for the Canes by scoring once and assisting in four more goals to help his team win big.
On the other hand, the Lightning failed to convert their power play opportunities and saw all of their 12 shots blocked.
NHL Twitter also reacted to this, as many fans looked unhappy with the response from the team and the coach. Here are a few such tweets.
One questioned the decisions of the head coach and asked about the situation in the team.
But one fan also came in support, saying that we should not count the Lightning out just yet.
Tampa Bay Lightning 2022-23 season so far
The Tampa Bay Lightning have had a good season barring the last few weeks, and currently sit third in the Eastern Conference Atlantic with 79 points. The Lightning on offense have done well enough to score over 218 goals, putting them on the list of only a few teams to achieve the feat.
They have a set of players who have contributed to the offense, with one being Brayden Point. He's scored 39 goals and 34 assists and is second on the team with 73 points so far.
On defense, the Tampa Bay Lightning did decent enough initially to concede less than three goals per game this season. But they've now lost their footing to average more than three goals per game. Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy has conceded around 2.6 goals per game at a save percentage of 0.915. There is a dip in Vasilevskiy's performances, with four losses in his last five outings.
With the Toronto Maple Leafs skidding out of reach in the second spot and other teams improving, the Tampa Bay Lightning will have to play better moving forward. Having lost their last six games, it will be interesting to see how they react in their next game when they play the Philadelphia Flyers on March 7, 2023.
