Edmonton Oilers hire Stan Bowman as GM and EVP of hockey operations

The Edmonton Oilers have named Stan Bowman as their new general manager and executive vice president of hockey operations. The team announced this on Wednesday.

Jeff Jackson, the Oilers' CEO of Hockey Operations, is excited about Bowman's arrival.

"I am excited and pleased to be welcoming Stan to the Edmonton Oilers," Jackson said (via NHL.com). "I believe his vast experience and proven success in this role, together with the important work he has done in his time away from the game, fits our goal of being best in class when it comes to all facets of our organization,"
"Through our many conversations, we share a common vision of where we are as a team and what is required to achieve another Stanley Cup title."

Bowman brings much experience, having worked with the Chicago Blackhawks for 20 years. He was their general manager for 12 years, from 2009 to 2021, and helped lead the team to three Stanley Cup wins (2010, 2013 and 2015).

Stan Bowman started with the Blackhawks in 2001 as a special assistant to the GM. He became director of hockey operations in 2005 and assistant GM in 2007. He was promoted to general manager in 2009.

Under Bowman's leadership, the Blackhawks had 493 wins, 310 losses and 109 ties. He also led them to three Western Conference titles, three Central Division titles and a Presidents' Trophy in 2013.
