The New York Rangers fell in heartbreaking fashion to the Colorado Avalanche losing 5-4 at the Madison Square Garden on Sunday. The loss dropped the Blueshirts to 24-21-4 on the season, while Colorado improved to 29-20-2.

New York was in the midst of a 10-game point streak which had them pushing for a playoff spot in the tight Eastern Conference. Sunday's defeat was their first time losing in regulation since January 4 against Washington. While the Rangers have played much better recently, fans know they need every point they can get after a disastrous December that set them back in the playoff race.

Here's how fans reacted to the game.

"Why the f**k is 93 in the NHL... he's a total stiff," one fan wrote on X.
"I'm sick and tired of Mika on the PP. Absolutely pointless. Borgen had a strong game, but he made that terrible pass that led to the game winning goal for the Avs. They were so close to getting at least a point," another fan wrote.
"Doesn't get more brutal than that loss. What a gut punch," one Rangers fan said.

Allowing a goal in the final 15 seconds of regulation to lose certainly stings. The fanbase took to X to voice their disappointment after the heartbreaking loss. Here are some more reactions.

"Oh man that's a tough way to lose," one fan wrote on X.
"ENOUGH WITH MIKA TURNING THE PUCK OVER ON THE POWERPLAY!! HE SUCKS!," another fan wrote.
"Remember this point. This will be the point that makes NYR miss the playoffs," one fan said.

The Rangers face another tough test on Tuesday night

The Rangers will have the chance to rebound from Sunday's defeat when they host the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night. Carolina is currently the second seed in the Metropolitan Division with a 30-16-4 record, good for 64 points.

New York is 0-2-0 against the Hurricanes so far this season. To make things even tougher, it will be the first time they face the new-look Canes who now have Mikko Rantanen and Taylor Hall.

It will be an extremely difficult task for the Rangers to take down their division rivals though it's the kind of game the Rangers have to win to keep their postseason hopes alive. The puck drops for the Rangers-Hurricanes showdown at 7 p.m. EST on Tuesday.
