"Will never do that with the Stanley Cup": Hockey fans react to David Pastrnak celebrating IIHF championship win with trophy beer chug

Hockey fans had mixed reactions to how David Pastrnak celebrated Czechia winning the IIHF world championships on Sunday. Pastrnak scored the first goal, and eventual game-winner, in the gold medal game as Czechia defeated Switzerland by a score of 2-0. After the game, a video went viral of Pastrnak chugging beer out of the trophy.

Chugging beer out of a trophy is nothing new, but some fans took that chance to take a dig at the Boston Bruins forward.

"If he can’t drink from the Stanley cup then he’ll do it with the world championship cup," a fan wrote.
"He will never do that with the Stanley Cup," another fan added.

Other fans, meanwhile, were happy for Pastrnak and Czechia for winning the gold medal.

"This rules," a fan wrote.
"Bruins fans gonna love this," another fan added.

Other fans, meanwhile, were impressed that Pastrnak chugged the beer well without spilling much on him.

"Czechs gone wild," another fan added.

Czechia upset Sweden by a score of 7-3 in the semi-finals to advance to the gold medal game where they beat Switzerland by a score of 2-0.

David Pastrnak says winning gold at home is special

The tournament was in Czechia and David Pastrnak joined after the Boston Bruins were eliminated from the playoffs by the Florida Panthers. Pastrnak ended up scoring the game-winner in the gold medal goal and to do it on home ice added to it.

"We did it at home," Pastrnak said, via ESPN. "We've been waiting for gold for a very long time and it couldn't have come at a better time. It's always a big thank you [to the fans]. They did amazing for weeks, and we were so excited to be able to extend it for them to play for the medal...
"This is always so special. [The tournament] was at home, and I've never played at home," Pastrnak said. "It would be really hard for me to say no. Obviously, when I'm healthy, I will never say no to the national team."

David Pastrnak will now begin his off-season as a gold medalist following the Bruins being eliminated in six games by the Florida Panthers. This past season for the Bruins, Pastrnak recorded 47 goals and 63 assists for 110 points. In the playoffs, he added four goals and four assists for eight points in 13 games.
