The Winnipeg Jets have signed Aaron Rodgers, well, sort of. In a tweet posted earlier today, the Winnipeg Jets posted that they had indeed signed the Green Bay Packers star quarterback in a parody of Rodgers to the New York Jets drama currently sweeping the sports world.
The Winnipeg Jets announced Aaron Rodgers' signing in a viral tweet, as a joke.
Aaron Rodgers was back in the news on Wednesday as the quarterback made an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. Rodgers expressed interest in being traded to the New York Jets after reports had surfaced all week saying that is where the star quarterback would land. Rodgers made several interesting quotes that made the rounds in the sports world, prompting teams and fans to poke fun at the MVP quarterback.
The Winnipeg Jets jumped on the opportunity and posted a faux announcement on their Twitter account announcing that the team had signed Aaron Rodgers. Included with the tweet was a photoshop image of Rodgers in his iconic number 12 jersey.
The actual text of the tweet was a parody of a tweet by Adam Schefter earlier in the day. Schefter had messaged Rodgers about his intentions to be traded to the Jets.
Rodgers rescinded to Schefter saying, “Lose my number. Good Try tho.”
Schefter then screenshotted the message and tweeted it with the caption, “Confirming Aaron Rodgers’ Report:”
The Jets' tweet was of the same ilk.
Although the Winnipeg Jets posted that they had indeed signed Rodgers, unfortunately, no confirmation was heard from any hockey insiders, which confirmed that Rodgers is unlikely to become the first hockey-football dual sports athlete.
Rodgers had said:
"At this point, as I sit here, I think since Friday, I made it clear that my intention was to play and my intention was to play for the New York Jets."
New York Jets fans rather than the Winnipeg ones should be ecstatic to hear Rodgers’ intentions reaffirmed on the Pat McAfee Show. The Jets recently also signed former Packers WR Allen Lazard to a contract in the hopes of luring Rodgers.
The Jets will take on the league-leading Boston Bruins tomorrow night.
