Goaltender Jet Greaves has inked a two-way deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets, avoiding arbitration. For the 2024-25 season, Greaves will be on a two-way contract, earning $800,000 at the NHL level. In the 2025-26 season, his contract shifts to a one-way agreement, with a salary of $825,000, per Sportnet’s Elliotte Freidman.
“Jet Greaves and Columbus have settled: 2024-25 is a two-way with an $800K at NHL level, 2025-26 is a one-way at $825K,” Friedman tweeted on Friday.
Fans were quick to react to the news on X. Some felt that the player was being underpaid.
“With a name like Jet, he deserves way more. Underpaid.”
“That is a great deal for the Blue Jackets he is a great goalie and a great person off the ice also,” commented one user.
“Good to see them get a deal done before Arb. #CBJ,” quipped one fan.
Fans praised the move and even called it a ‘steal’ for the franchise. Some even predicted Jet Greaves to be the team’s future starter.
“Good for Jet and a smart move by Columbus. #CBJ.”
“I think that’s what it was all about - the one- vs. two-way contract. Glad we got 2 of 3 resolved. Congrats to Jet! I’m sure the big one will be resolved, too - and soon. #CBJ,” commented another fan.
“Great news for Friday afternoon. Jet has a really bright future,” wrote another user.
Pascal Vincent heaped praise on Jet Greaves’ personality last year
Securing Jet Greaves for a couple of more seasons will surely add to their goaltending depth going forward. Earlier last season, Blue Jackets former head coach Pascal Vincent heaped praise on the goalie for his personality on and off the ice (via NHL.com):
“He’s such a good kid. He’s a hard-working young man, but he’s such a good person. He’s the kind of guy that if you have an average day and you’re around Jet, you feel better all of a sudden.
“He was one of our best goalies, and we could argue he was the best goalie, at camp. He deserves it. He deserves to stay here for now."
And it seems he will. Greaves will have to prove his game before he makes his place behind Elvis Merzlikins and Daniil Tarasov down the pecking order.
