On Thursday, the Four Nations Face-Off jerseys were revealed. They all got a little flak from fans who didn't like them, but the Canadian team's uniform took the brunt of it. Now, a popular YouTuber by the handle of Eck, who has over 137,000 subscribers, is jumping on the hate bandwagon.
Eck captioned the video with "I'm sorry but I need to be honest" before delivering his assessment:
"I don't hate these, but Canada has had so many cool jerseys and this almost looks like something you could find at Canadian Tire. Like the non-official Team Canada jersey you can wear during street hockey... I think the USA and Sweden are both much better... Finland is probably good as well... Canada, while not being awful, is probably the worst of them [all]."
Eck did say that he likes the textured look of the Maple Leaf logo, but he doesn't like abandoning the minimalist approach to their uniforms. Their colors are so striking in their eyes that they didn't need to try so hard with these. Eck kept reiterating that these jerseys are far from terrible, but that they're firmly the worst in this competition.
Connor McDavid defers to Canadian veteran for Four Nations Face-Off
Connor McDavid may be the best Canadian player in the Four Nations Face-Off, but he doesn't think he should be named captain. The Edmonton Oilers star deferred to someone much older and more accomplished.
Via NHL, he said it should be Sidney Crosby:
“It should be Sid. It should be Sid for sure, that’s not even a question. It’s just how it should be. He’s Sidney Crosby and he’s been there so many times and he’s the guy. It’s not like I thought about it a lot, it’s just such a no-brainer.”
Crosby thanked McDavid for the vote of support:
“I appreciate that,” Crosby said Thursday. “I think that being a little more experienced he’s giving me that. He’s obviously a great leader and he’s done so much for the team here and for Canada as well. I think anytime you’re looked to wear a letter, whether it’s a ‘C’ or an ‘A’ and be a part of Team Canada, it’s a great honor regardless. But I appreciate that.”
McDavid added that the Pittsburgh Penguins star is someone that he grew up admiring and still does now that they are peers in the National Hockey League.
