The Montreal Canadiens made some roster moves ahead of their upcoming four-game road trip, leaving Habs fans questioning the logic behind the latest shake-up.
Forward Oliver Kapanen, who made his NHL debut this season, was loaned to Timra IK in the SHL after putting up just two assists in 12 games. Meanwhile, Lucas Condotta got called up from the AHL's Laval Rocket.
It's his second call-up this year, and he has one goal in four career games with the Habs last season. Additionally, Jacob Perreault was sent down to the Rocket. Perreault was acquired from Anaheim for Jan Mysak.
The moves left many Montreal fans scratching their heads. One tweeted:
"Yeah I think MSL lost it," questioning coach Martin St. Louis' decision-making.
Another questioned:
"Out of all the AHLers, you call Condotta???" on X.
Here are some more fan reactions:
"Great that Oliver got the experience, now he has a much better understanding of what it takes to play at the NHL level. Though I don't think he was bad, a bit more explosiveness and bite in his play will do good," one wrote on X.
"Kid got a good look and knows what he has to work on , good move," another fan wrote.
"Hopefully this means something else is going to happen soon. For sure Hughes has been working to try and fix this team in the short term," a user commented.
"Maybe just don’t set him up to fail next time? We just got even worse," another user commented.
Montreal Canadiens HC Martin St. Louis said team is 'hungry' for win
Coach Martin St. Louis remains defiant despite the Montreal Canadiens' four straight losses, emphasizing the team's burning desire to return to the win column.
Following Tuesday's heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss to the Calgary Flames, St. Louis addressed the mounting pressure.
"I don't think we had any passengers tonight. I thought the guys had the right intentions, mindset, stuff that we've been talking about. It's a game of inches," St. Louis said after the game.
Despite the loss, St. Louis wants his players to feel hungry for more.
"Hungry. I want them to leave this game hungry, and if I was in their shoes, I'd wish we played tomorrow - that's what I want them to feel like, that's what I want to be like," he said.
The Montreal Canadiens will face their upcoming road trip, starting with a matchup against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.
