Former NHL player Sean Avery recently took to his Instagram stories to call out Disney+ over its upcoming subscription fee increase.

He first posted two screenshots of the situation. In the first screenshot, Disney+ informed him that the price of the Disney Bundle Trio Premium plan would rise to $26.99 per month starting Oct. 17, 2024. Avery’s second screenshot showed that he had canceled his subscription, with Disney+ confirming that he could still use the service until September 20, 2024.

Following the screenshots, he posted a video in which he vented his frustration with the streaming services. Avery made it clear that although he admired Disney's CEO Bob Iger, he wasn’t going to let the price hike slide.

“All these fucking streamers, they want to test me? I happen to be a fan of Bob Iger. I believe I'm a Disney shareholder, but no. That's not going to happen. What do I get in return? I get a $10 price increase, what do I get? I'm a micro-influencer, you fuck with me. I tell the people. It's just the way this works,” Avery said.

After some time, Sean Avery posted a second video where his tone was more thoughtful. He acknowledged that Disney had provided him and his son Nash with a lot of enjoyment over the years and admitted he didn’t want to take out his frustrations on them.

“Alright, I've done some thinking. Disney's been offering me a lot of enjoyment over the years. And I don't want to hurt Nash in the process. I don't.”

Avery then mentioned that someone from Disney had already contacted him regarding his concerns.

“I took my frustration out on DirecTV. I also had somebody already contact me from Disney. You know, listen. I'm fighting for you, the people. The Disney bundle right now, it's like $25. It's a pretty good deal. I'm in. I'm in,” Avery added.

Sean Avery is co-authoring a sports romance novel

The former NHLer has dabbled his feet in modeling and acting and is now co-authoring a sports romance book. Sean Avery recently shared his thoughts on the current state of the genre, which he described as "tragic" and in need of a major shake-up.

“The current landscape in the sports romance category for books. It's, it's, it's, it's tragic. It's f**king tragic,” Avery said in a video posted on his Instagram story.
“All right. I, along with my co-writer Leslie, we are writing our magnum opus. We're gonna break open the category. We're gonna revolutionize it. It's so good, but we're having creative differences at this moment over one specific thing,”

Avery discussed their book project and mentioned some minor creative disagreements, such as how to name a dish. Despite these small differences, Avery is excited about their book and believes it has the potential to transform the sports romance genre.
