Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski's week was capped off in the best way possible. The 27-year-old was named the league's First Star of the Week for his contributions to his team's three wins. His fiance Odette penned a congratulatory word for his win.
On Instagram, she posted a story with a post from the Blue Jackets announcing their defenseman's accolade. She wrote 'well deserved' with a teary-eyed emoji.
Zach Werenski is one of the primary reasons why the Blue Jackets are looking like a decent team. They currently have a 9-9-2 record but earned their last three wins against top-caliber opposition - Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning and Carolina Hurricanes.
Werenski accounted for seven points - two goals and five assists - during those games. The 2015 draft pick is also averaging the most time on the ice (26:05) in the league.
His 20 points this season are part of the 322 that he has earned for the Blue Jackets during his stay in Ohio. Werenski is the franchise leader among defensemen for goals, assists and points and is also leading the league's defenseman this season.
Odette Peters' reaction to Zach Werenski's OT goal against Lightning
Five of Werenski's seven points came in the nail-biter against the Tampa Bay Lightning which the Blue Jackets won 7-6 in OT. He scored twice and assisted three times. Most importantly, he got the winning goal that sent the Columbus crowd into a frenzy.
After the game, Odette posted a snap of his game highlights on her Instagram story with a heartfelt caption showing her elation.
Odette would hope that Zach continues to retain his form as the league's best offensive defenseman. Columbus is, however, second last in the Metropolitan division, but last week's results are exactly what they were hoping for as a turnaround. They host fellow Canadian teams the Canadiens and the Flames this week.
