Columbus Blue Jackets alternate captain Zach Werenski dropped yet another masterclass on Friday during the 6-2 win against the Boston Bruins. He matched a career-high with four assists on the night, three of them coming on the power play. It helped the Blue Jackets score three power-play goals for the first time in nearly four years.

Werenski’s fiancee, Odette Peters, was in attendance at the Nationwide Arena on the occasion and took to her Instagram stories to express her excitement. She posted a click of the large LED screen taken from the rinkside when Werenski was announced as the first star of the game.

“1st ⭐ and 4 🍎!!!”, she wrote in the caption.

The Jackets struck first in the opening period when Sean Monahan redirected a shot from Zach Werenski on the power play, making it 1-0. In the second period, Columbus managed to net four goals. Dmitri Voronkov scored twice, including a late-period power-play goal, while Kirill Marchenko and Monahan also found the back of the net.

In the third period, the Jackets put the finishing touch when Adam Fantilli scored their sixth goal and sealed the deal.

Zach Werenski claims team needs to win ‘more games on the road’

In the post-game interview, Zach Werenski lauded how well the team has been playing at home recently. He said they’re feeling confident and getting a lot of energy from their fans.

However, he admitted that if they want to achieve their goals, they need to start winning more games on the road, not just at home.

“If we want to get to where we want to go, we have to win some games on the road. We'll take the home wins, but now it's time to do it on the road,” he said.

Werenski also explained what worked so well in the game. He said the team really stepped up in the second period, making smart plays and using their power play to gain momentum.

The Blue Jackets alternate captain mentioned that it had been a long time since their power play had worked this well. He then praised the players for knowing their roles and working together to score big goals.

The win improved the Blue Jackets' record to 15-15-6. The team now heads to Boston for a Saturday rematch in TD Garden, where they will be looking to improve their road performance.
