The National Hockey League (NHL) All-Star game for 2024, popularly known as the 68th game All-Star game is all set to commence on February 3, 2024. The NHL has used teams in the All-Star games in various different ways.
It began with the All-Star Teams vs Stanley Cup Champions games from 1947 to 1968, it later shifted to games between two All-Star teams - Wales/Eastern Conference All-Star Team and Campbell/Western Conference All-Star team from 1969. However, the 2010/11 season saw the league introduce the fantasy draft style in which All-Star players drafted their respective teammates for their teams.
The concept of four teams was introduced in 2016 and has continued till the 2023 All-Star game. For the 2024 game, the NHL has combined the modern four team concept with the previous fantasy draft concept (2010-2015) in which players would themselves draft their team members.
2024 NHL All-Star Four Teams
For the 2024 NHL All-Star game, the league had initially selected 32 players, each from one team in the league on January 4, 2024. This was followed by the fans voting their choice for the remaining 12 players on January 13, 2024. The four teams were named after their captains. These are Team Matthews, Team MacKinnon, Team McDavid and Team Hughes. Each team’s captain has their own assistant captain and also a celebrity captain who will help him draft players into his team on February 1, 2024.
Team Matthews
Team Matthews is captained by Auston Matthews, who is making his 5th All-Star appearance in 2024. Assisting him is Morgan Rielly, making his NHL All-Star debut. The team will be wearing blue colored jerseys during the game.
