Format for Choosing NHL All-Stars
The NHL has used several different formats for choosing their All-Stars over the years since its inception. However, since 2016, the NHL has introduced four teams which play in the games every year. Furthermore for the 2024 game, the All Stars were chosen using a combination of both the present four team three on three format and the previous fantasy voting format, which was used from 2011 - 2016.
Regarding the 2024 NHL All-Star game, the league first selected 32 All-Star players, one each from all the teams. The league revealed their selections on January 4, 2024. The team captains for the first two teams were also declared on the same day. Following this, the remaining 12 players were chosen by the fans through voting on January 13, 2024. After this, the team captains for the remaining two teams were declared on January 20, 2024.
