Arguably the most looked forward to event every year in the NHL Skills Competition is the Breakaway Challenge, where players look to put their creativity and comedy to the test, all while trying to score in the most impressive way possible. Friday night in the NHL All-Star Skills, the dramatics were in full effect for the second year in a row, with even more outlandish skits and parodies during the challenge. Let’s take a look at and rank each player's breakaway challenge attempt.

NHL All-Star Breakaway Challenge Attempts Ranked

4. Mitch Marner’s Miami “Nice” Parody

The best part of Mitch Marner’s NHL Breakaway Challenge wasn’t even his own shot, as Marner went to the bullpen at the beginning of the sketch, bringing out local Panthers legend Roberto Luongo to shoot against. Marner’s all white suit, skates and shades might have won best dressed on the night, but the shot was easily stopped by the retired Luongo, and Marner garnered the lowest score of the night.

3. Brady and Matthew Tkachuk go to the beach

The Tkachuk brothers came out for the NHL Breakaway Challenge in front of Matthew’s home crowd and brought a lot of creative elements. The costumes were top tier, with both sporting beach shirts, board shorts, and bucket hats. The celebrity cameo was also impressive with Christian Wilkins of the Miami Dolphins coming out to hand goalie Roberto Luongo a pool noodle. The shot itself left something to be desired, however, with Matthew Tkachuk putting the puck into his bucket and slapping it into the net.

2. David Pastrnak gives his best Happy Gilmore Impression

In maybe the best performance by an actor in a leading role of the night, David Pastrnak impressed Adam Sandler a la Happy Gilmore for his NHL Breakaway Challenge attempt. The drawback was Pastrnak needed three shots to do it, each one mimicking a scene from the movie. The two moments that stole the show was first Pastrnak’s “riding the club” celebration, mimicking Sandler from the feature film, and Linus Ullmark coming to hand Pastrnak his club sporting a fake beard and Bear helmet.

1. Sergei Ovechkin

Easily winning the competition for most adorable moment of the night, was when Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby teamed up to give Alex’s four-year-old son, Sergei, the shot of his life. Sergei took the shot for the two legends of the last decade in the league, and scored five hole on hall of fame goaltender Roberto Luongo. The goal gave the three a perfect score of 40 and Alex Ovechkin’s fourth breakaway challenge title.
